HMCS NAPANEE now completed, leaving Kingston on 12 May 1941. Her completion and commissioning was delayed until spring, after grounding in the St. Lawrence River on 30 November 1940, requiring the corvette to return to Kingston Shipyards for repairs. NAPANEE was to be the first corvette commissioned into the RCN, because of the delay in her commissioning, HMCS COLLINGWOOD became the first RCN corvette.
