This is the story of six Royal Canadian Navy ships: HMCS BELLEVILLE -Flower Class Corvette, HMCS HALLOWELL -Town Class Frigate, HMCS NAPANEE -Flower Class Corvette, HMCS QUINTE(I) -Bangor Class Minesweeper, HMCS QUINTE(II) -Bay Class Minesweeper and HMCS TRENTONIAN -Flower Class Corvette.
HMCS NAPANEE
These histories give a unique account of the small ships that have been the backbone of the Canadian Navy during the Second World War and the Cold War. The stories record the accomplishments of these hardworking ships as well as the mistakes. This rich and vivid account of an important part of Canada’s Naval Service from the darkest days of the Battle of the Atlantic during the Second World War to the height of the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
HMCS HALLOWELL
The stories are told from the records of the ships, interviews with their crews, letters, diaries, newspaper articles, community libraries and richly visualized with photographs.
You will learn about HMCS NAPANEE’s five day battle against twenty-four German submarines in on one of Canada’s most tragic convoy battles. Be with HMCS BELLEVILLE as she fights to rescue a torpedoed merchant ship. HMCS HALLOWELL had ties to Admiral Nelson and escorts a surrendered German U-Boat.
HMCS QUINTE
Read as the first HMCS QUINTE, through a series of breakdowns and errors sinks off Cape Breton. Then tragically, Murphy’s Law has the upper hand as the ship sinks a second time. The second HMCS QUINTE served during the Cold War and was called to duty with the entire East Coast Fleet during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
HMCS TRENTONIAN was off the beaches of Normandy during the invasion and is the last Canadian warship to have been attacked by the United States Navy. She met her fate when a German submarine torpedoed her late in the war killing six of her crew.

These six ships were named for communities in Eastern Ontario on the Bay of Quinte, their stories tell the history of the hard working small ships that thousands of Canadian sailors volunteered to serve our country.
