Labelled by Bruce Keir as Milford Haven, Whales, other members of TRENTONIAN state this was a photo of the Convoy they escorted from Oban, Scotland to Normandy for the Invasion in May/June 1944.  The convoy is made up of worn-out merchant ships and old warships stripped of their weapons and fittings, they are to be sunk off the five invasion beaches to form breakwaters, code named Gosseberry’s. They are to protect the Mulberry harbours and landing areas. This odd assortment of derelict ships lead to a great amount of speculation amongst TRENTONIAN’s crew as to why these ships were so important that they needed to be escorted and the crew confined to the ship.
