Roger visiting RCSCC WARSPITE in Kitchener, Ont. with Commanding Officer Lt. (N) Chris Patterson and corps Coxswain, CPO2 Brandi Dittmer.
On 7 February 2012, Roger was invited to visited his old Sea Cadet corps in Kitchener. For Roger this is where his love of the Canadian Navy and its history began. As a Sea Cadet with RCSCC WARSPITE and later as a Reserve Officer, he would listen to the veterans and the experiences they had while serving in Canada’s Navy.
Lt.(N) Chris Patterson, Commanding Officer of WARSPITE invited Roger to be the Reviewing Officer during the corps monthly Ceremonial Divisions. Roger inspected the cadets and said a few words. Speaking with the cadets brought back many wonderful memories for Roger.
Roger presented the corps with a signed copy of his book and a framed photo of HMCS KITCHENER, in appreciation for the experiences he had as a cadet. Roger found the photo of Kitchener’s namesake corvette in a private collection; it shows the ship in Bermuda in 1944 and has never been published.
WARSPITE is still strong with enthusiasm, dedication and numbers.
