DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_2676" align="alignright" width="300"] Central Bridge in Trenton built over 150 ships for the War Effort during WWII.[/caption]\nFrom Tugboats to Nuclear Submarines -Shipbuilding in Trenton during WWII\nJoin Roger Litwiller at the January meeting of the Hastings County Historical Society's monthly meeting for his talk on wartime shipbuilding in the Quinte area.\nShips of all sizes were in high demand during WWII and any industry capable of joining steel was employed to build them.  Two companies in Trenton were put to the task.  Aero-Marine Crafts built sleek Hospital ships on the Trent River\, while Central Bridge constructed Tugboats\, Hospital Ships\, Lighters and Fireboats\, two miles inshore.  Together over 170 ships were built for the war effort in Trenton\, constituting the third largest shipbuilding contract in Ontario. All of this activity was under the direct supervision of Herb Ditchburn\, the renowned boat builder from Gravenhurst\, famous for his Muskoka speed boats.  As for the submarine connection\, come to the presentation and find out.\n\nFor this presentation\, Roger has collected many photos of the building process developed for the rapid construction of these sturdy craft.
